Anvil 2024
The Inaugural AnVIL Community Conference
November 12 - 13, 2024
Cold Spring Harbor, NY, USA
#AnVILCommunity2024

Unlock the Power of AnVIL. Learn, Collaborate, Discover.

Embark on an immersive journey with the AnVIL Team at our inaugural AnVIL Community Conference on November 12-13, 2024. This in-person conference combines scientific talks, an instructional workshop, and a collaborative research festival, dubbed CoFest. Learn about the latest advancements in biomedical and genomic cloud computing research, get hands-on training to use the platform, and meet the AnVIL community.

The AnVIL meeting will start at 9:00 am on November 12 (with housing & dinner available on the 11th) and end at 5:00 pm on November 13 (with breakfast and lunch included on the 13th).  This meeting will be held immediately prior to the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Biological Data Science meeting that starts at 7:30 pm (preceded by dinner starting at 5:30 pm) November 13 and runs through November 16th. We anticipate many Anvil participants will stay on for the Biological Data Science meeting.

The NHGRI Genomic Data Science Analysis, Visualization, and Informatics Lab-Space, or AnVIL, inverts the traditional model of genomic data science, providing a cloud environment for the analysis of large genomic and related datasets.

By providing a unified environment for data management and compute, AnVIL eliminates the need for data movement, allows for active threat detection and monitoring, and provides elastic, shared computing resources that can be acquired by researchers as needed.

The AnVIL is:

  • a federated cloud platform leveraging the Terra system as a compute environment with secure data and analysis sharing capabilities;
  • the Terra Data Repository (TDR) which provides data and metadata ingest, querying, and cohort creation;
  • Bioconductor and Galaxy which offer environments for users to construct and execute analyses using a diverse set of tools
  • Dockstore which empowers standards based sharing of containerized tools and workflows.

Here’s a glimpse into what you can expect at the first AnVIL Community Conference:

Scientific Talks by Anshul Kundaje, Michael Schatz, Tychele Turner and Melissa Wilson will provide an engaging session of presentations demonstrating the latest and greatest on what researchers can do with the AnVIL platform.

Workshops: Attend training sessions to learn about data and analysis offerings in AnVIL with a mix of presentations and hands-on instruction.

CoFest: Participate in a Collaboration Fest, or CoFest! to delve into AnVIL usage and innovation. As a finale, participants are encouraged to share their discoveries at the close of the conference.

Join us at the flagship AnVIL Community Conference for an enriching blend of instruction and collaboration, set amidst the backdrop of cutting-edge scientific discourse.
