PROBABILISTIC MODELING IN GENOMICS
October 14 - 17, 2015
Abstract Deadline: July 24, 2015

Organizers:
Barbara Engelhardt, Princeton University     Thomas Mailund, Aarhus University, Denmark     Adam Siepel, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory

We are pleased to announce a new conference on Probabilistic Modeling in Genomics, which will be held at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, New York. The meeting will begin with dinner and an evening session on Wednesday, October 14th, and conclude with lunch on Saturday, October 17, 2015.

The conference will cover probabilistic models, algorithms, and statistical methods across a broad range of applications in genomics and systems biology. The conference will be distinguished from most other Cold Spring Harbor meetings by its mathematical content, but it will maintain a strong emphasis on important and timely biological applications. This conference grew out of successful workshops on similar topics held previously at the HHMI Janelia Farm Research Campus and Merton College, Oxford.

The conference brings together leading scientists in this fast-moving field. Junior investigators including postdoctoral fellows and graduate students are encouraged to attend and submit abstracts for both oral and/or poster presentations. The majority of oral presentations will be drawn from openly submitted abstracts.

Keynote Speakers:
Michael I. Jordan, University of California, Berkeley
Elizabeth A. Thompson, University of Washington

Topics and Speakers:
Assembly and Variant Identification
Richard Durbin, Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, UK
David Haussler, HHMI and UC Santa Cruz

Population Genetics and Natural Selection
Rasmus Nielsen, UC Berkeley
Amy Williams, Cornell University

Functional Genomics
Lior Pachter, UC Berkeley
Sylvia Richardson, MRC Biostatistics Unit, UK

Systems and Structural Biology
Mona Singh, Princeton University
Olga Troyanskaya, Princeton University

Demography and Admixture
John Novembre, University of Chicago
Yun Song, UC Berkeley/University of Pennsylvania

Quantitative Genetics
Jennifer Listgarten, Microsoft Research New England
Matthew Stephens, University of Chicago

The format of the meeting will include six oral sessions and one poster session. Each oral session will include invited speakers and speakers selected from submitted abstracts. For this reason, abstracts from accomplished junior and senior investigators are warmly invited.

Abstracts should focus on new and unpublished data. The organizers will select abstracts for oral or poster presentations. The status (talk/poster) of abstracts will be posted on our web site (below) as soon as decisions have been made. We have applied for funds from government and industry to partially support graduate students and postdocs.

We hope to see you at Cold Spring Harbor in October.
