This workshop will provide students with the most current understanding of the molecular, cellular and neural systems underlying the disturbances in brain function in these devastating illnesses. During the 7-day workshop, students will learn about the clinical aspects of schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder and bipolar disorder as well as explore in detail the genetic and neurobiological underpinnings of these complex psychiatric disorders. The Workshop will include sessions focused on: The Clinical Syndrome, Basic Neurobiology, Cognitive Neuroscience, Neuroimaging, Genetics and Genomics, Endophenotypes, and Gene Expression and Gene Modulation. In addition to hearing about the most recent research in these areas, controversial topics and challenges to basic assumptions in the field will be explored and discussed. A diverse faculty will bring the most up-to-date results and theories to the students, making this Workshop a valuable resource for young researchers starting out in this fast-moving and expansive field. Not only will it help them build the foundation for their future research, it will also introduce them to many potential collaborators working to understand schizophrenia and similar disorders from different perspectives.

The course will be held at the Laboratory’s Banbury Conference Center located on the north shore of Long Island. All participants stay within walking distance of the Center, close to tennis court, pool and private beach.
