April 3 - 6, 2012
Abstract Deadline: January 27, 2012
Organizers:
Mark L. Blaxter, University of Edinburgh,
UK
Dee R. Denver, Oregon State University
Keynote Speaker:
Marie-Anne Félix
Institute of Biology of the Ecole Normale Supérieure (IBENS), France
The
2012 Cold Spring Harbor meeting on Evolution
of Caenorhabditis and Other Nematodes
follows the successful 2010 meeting held at the Wellcome
Trust Conference Centre in Hinxton, UK. The 2012
meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, and will conclude with
lunch on Friday, April 6.
This
conference will bring together both senior and junior scientists who
investigate evolutionary processes in diverse nematodes, including the famous
model organism Caenorhabditis elegans
and its relatives as well as plant-, animal-, and human-parasitic nematode
species. Broad topics will include:
- Fundamental evolutionary forces
- Evolution of development and reproductive mode
- Evolution of parasitism and pathogenesis
- Metagenomics and biodiversity
- Computational genomics of Caenorhabditis
species
- Computational genomics of other nematodes
The meeting will include seven oral sessions plus one
session devoted to posters. The session chairs of the meeting will be:
Jennifer Anderson, Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of Oregon
Matthew Berriman, Group Leader at the Wellcome
Trust Sanger Institute
Holly Bik, Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of New
Hampshire
David Bird, Professor at North Carolina State University
Asher Cutter, Assistant Professor and Canada Research Chair at the
University of Toronto
Jan Kammenga, Associate Professor at Wageningen
University
Makedonka Mitreva, Assistant Director of the Genome Institute at
Washington University
Tom Moens, Lecturer at Ghent University
Matthew Rockman,
Assistant Professor at New York
University
Hinrich Schulenburg,
Professor and Chair at the University of Kiel
John Spieth, Research Professor at the Genome Institute of
Washington University
Mark Viney, Professor at the University of Bristol
Follow the links at left to register for the meeting and
submit an abstract. Abstracts should contain only new and unpublished
material and
must be submitted electronically by the abstract deadline. Selection of material for oral and poster presentations
will be made by the organizers and individual session chairs. The status of
abstracts (i.e., talk or poster) will be posted as soon as decisions have
been made by the organizers.
NEW! During the day on April 3rd, a pre-meeting satellite gathering of the NemaSym research coordination network will take place on the CSHL campus. The NSF-funded NemaSym is dedicated to the study of nematode-bacterium symbioses. For details, contact Dr. S. Patricia Stock at the University of Arizona.
Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is eager to have as many young people as
possible attend this meeting. As such, we have some funds set aside to
partially support students and postdocs, including one travel scholarship generously provided by the Nathan Cobb Foundation for a student working on plant- or insect-parasitic nematodes. Please apply in writing to meetings@cshl.edu stating your need for
financial support. Preference will be given to those submitting abstracts.
We
look forward to seeing you at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in April.
