MICROBIAL PATHOGENESIS & HOST RESPONSE
September 8 - 12, 2009
Abstract Deadline: June 19, 2009

Organizers:
Andrew Camilli, Tufts University Medical School
Brendan Cormack, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
Theresa Koehler, University of Texas Houston Medical School

We are pleased to host the seventh Cold Spring Harbor meeting on Microbial Pathogenesis and Host Response, which will begin at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, September 8 and run through lunch on Saturday, September 12, 2009. The meeting will focus on interdisciplinary approaches to study infectious disease in animal and plant hosts, integrating the disciplines of molecular microbiology, eukaryotic cell biology, immunology, and genomics. The meeting will provide an in depth focus on the approaches that are being used to elucidate the mechanisms of bacterial and fungal pathogenesis, and promote the application of these concepts to understanding the evolution of emerging diseases.

Sessions will integrate studies on bacterial and fungal pathogens. The oral sessions will begin with 2 - 3 invited talks by established leaders in the field, followed by several shorter talks chosen from submitted abstracts. We strongly encourage submission of abstracts by junior researchers in the field. The meeting will address the following topics:

Topics Include:
Effector Delivery and Function
Regulation of Virulence
Microbial Communities
Immune Response to Pathogens
Genomes and Evolution of Virulence
Cell-Cell Communication
Microbial Trafficking in Cells and Tissues

Abstracts should contain only new and unpublished material and must be submitted electronically by the abstract deadline. Selection of material for oral and poster presentation will be made by the organizers and individual session chairs. Status (talk/poster) of abstracts will be posted on our web site as soon as decisions have been made by the organizers.

We are eager to have as many young people as possible attend since they are likely to benefit most from this meeting. We have applied for funds from government and industry to partially support graduate students and postdocs. Apply in writing to meetings@cshl.edu stating need for financial support - preference is given to those submitting abstracts.

We look forward to seeing you at Cold Spring Harbor in September.

This conference is supported in part by funds provided by:
National Institute of Dental & Craniofacial Research
National Institute of Allergy & Infectious Diseases
