March 13 - 16, 2008
Abstract Deadline: January 16, 2008

Organizers:

Typical Program Call for Nominations: Larry Katz Memorial Lecture

We are pleased to announce the second Cold Spring Harbor winter conference on Neuronal Circuits: From Structure To Function, which will begin at 7:30 pm on Thursday, March 13 and run through lunch on Sunday, March 16, 2008.

A comprehensive description of neuronal circuitry, an old dream of neuroscientists, is about to become a reality with recent technological advances. As these advances have been made in different model organisms and systems, there is a need for a forum where neuroscientists studying various neuronal circuits could exchange ideas. This CSHL meeting will allow for neuroscientists working on neuronal circuits in a wide range of model organisms, from invertebrates to mammals, to come together and discuss their research. Contributions from research centered on neuronal circuits involving anatomical, physiological, theoretical and behavioral approaches will be encouraged.

Topics covered by the meeting include but are not limited to:
· Chemical senses
· Visual system
· Circuits underlying cortical function
· Motor control
· New methods for investigating structure & function of circuits

Invited speakers (confirmed):
Cori Bargmann, The Rockefeller University
Tobias Bonhoeffer, Max-Planck-Institute of Neurobiology
Karl Deisseroth, Stanford University
Winfried Denk, Max-Planck-Institute for Medial Research
Michael Fee, Massachussets Institute of Technology
Jeff Lichtman, Harvard University
Eve Marder, Brandeis University
Edvard Moser, Center for the Biology of Memory
Sacha Nelson, Brandeis University
Clay Reid, Harvard Medical School
Massimo Scanziani, University of California San Diego
Kristin Scott, University of California, Berkeley
Stephen Smith, Stanford Medical School
Charles Stevens, The Salk Institute
Karel Svoboda, Janelia Farm Research Campus, HHMI
Gabor Tamas, University of Szeged, Hungary/HHMI
Rachel Wilson, Harvard Medical School
Rachel Wong, Washington University
Rafael Yuste, Columbia University/HHMI

Abstracts are welcomed on all scientific topics related to the structure or function of neuronal circuits. They should contain only new and unpublished material and must be submitted electronically by the abstract deadline. Selection of material for oral and poster presentation will be made by the organizers and individual session chairs. Status (talk/poster) of abstracts will be posted on our web site as soon as decisions have been made by the organizers.

We are eager to have as many young people as possible to attend since they are likely to benefit most from this meeting. We have applied for funds from government and industry to partially support graduate students and postdocs. Apply in writing to meetings@cshl.edu stating need for financial support - preference is given to those submitting abstracts.

We look forward to seeing you at Cold Spring Harbor in March.

This conference is supported in part by funds provided by:
The Swartz Foundation
