The
second Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory meeting on The Ubiquitin
Family will be held at Cold Spring Harbor, New York. The meeting
will begin on the evening of Wednesday April 27, and finish after
lunch on Sunday, May 1, 2005. Compared to the previous Cold Spring
Harbor meeting on the Ubiquitin Family held in 2003, this year's
sessions are focused more on physiological processes, rather than
components of the pathway (which is collapsed into one session
this year). This reflects that as time goes on, work on the system
is increasingly defined in terms of its impact on physiological
processes rather than on the enzymology of the underlying reactions.
Topics & Co-Session Chairs:
• Enzymes of ubiquitin family protein systems
Cecile Pickart & Brenda Schulman
•
Endocytosis & membrane trafficking
Linda Hicke & Pier Paolo DiFiore
•
Protein quality control
Thomas
Sommer & Mark Hochstrasser
• Regulation & dysregulation in the brain
Michael Ehlers & Ted Dawson
• Chromatin structure, gene regulation & DNA
repair
Shelly Berger & Bill Tansey
• Cell cycle regulation & cancer
J. Wade Harper & William Kaelin
• Cell signaling pathways
Steve Reed & Jan-Michael Peters
• New technologies & therapeutic strategies
Michael Tyers & Hidde Ploegh
The
meeting is intended to provide a format for the exchange of ideas
and information, to discuss the latest research findings and technical
advances, and to facilitate interaction amongst groups active
in diverse systems. Abstracts
should contain only new and unpublished material and
must be submitted electronically by the abstract deadline. Selection
of material for oral and poster presentation will be made by the
organizers and individual session chairs. Status (talk/poster)
of abstracts will be posted on our web site as soon as decisions
have been made by the organizers.
We are eager to have as many young people as possible attend since
they are likely to benefit most from this meeting. We have applied
for funds from government and industry to partially support graduate
students and postdocs. Apply in writing to meetings@cshl.edu
stating need for financial support - preference is given to those
submitting abstracts.
We
look forward to seeing you at Cold Spring Harbor in April.
