EUKARYOTIC mRNA PROCESSING
August 24 - 28, 2005
Abstract Deadline: June 8, 2005

Organizers:
Elisa Izaurralde, EMBL Heidelberg, Germany
Timothy Nilsen, Case Western Reserve University
Donald Rio, University of California, Berkeley

We are pleased to host the fifth Cold Spring Harbor meeting on Eukaryotic mRNA Processing, which will begin at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, August 24 and run through lunch on Sunday, August 28, 2005. The meeting will focus on the mechanisms and regulation of mRNA splicing, polyadenylation, turnover, localization and RNA interference. It will include all aspects mRNA transport, processing and control, including microRNA function. The meeting is intended to provide a format for the exchange of ideas and information, to discuss the latest research findings and technical advances, and to facilitate interaction amongst groups active in diverse systems.

RNA transport and localization
Ulrike Kutay, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology

Splicing mechanisms and spliceosome assembly
Michael Rosbash, HHMI/Brandeis University

3’ ends: Processing and Coupling to Other Reactions
Nick Proudfoot, Oxford University, UK

Alternative RNA Processing and Editing
Douglas Black, University of California, Los Angeles

RNA decay and RNA surveillance
Ann-Bin Shyu, University of Texas-Houston

RNA Interference and microRNA function
Greg Hannon, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory

sn RNPs: biogenesis, structure and function
Christine Guthrie, University of California, San Francisco

RNA genomics and bioinformatics
Manny Ares, University of California, Santa Cruz

Abstracts should contain only new and unpublished material and must be submitted electronically by the abstract deadline. Selection of material for oral and poster presentation will be made by the organizers and individual session chairs. Status (talk/poster) of abstracts will be posted on our web site as soon as decisions have been made by the organizers.

We are eager to have as many young people as possible attend and we have applied for funds from government and industry to partially support graduate students and postdocs. Apply in writing to meetings@cshl.edu stating need for financial support - preference is given to those submitting abstracts.

We look forward to seeing you at Cold Spring Harbor in August.
